    Invited. After a battle against the Dominion in 2374, the Akagi 
    reported 20 crewmembers MIA and 1 crewmember KIA. DS9 In the Pale 
    Moonlight. 
    Named after the Japanese 
    carrier that fought against the American warship U.S.S. Hornet in the Battle 
    of Midway in World War II. Ron Moore thought it fitting that in Star Trek's 
    future, the Akagi would be serving alongside the Hornet. Name from

    TNG writer/consultant Naren Shankar suggested that the Bajoran cargo vessel 
    in the TNG episode "Ensign Ro" be designated as Antares-class ship, a tip of the hat to 
    the TOS episode "Charlie X".
