The Adelphi conducted the disastrous first contact with the planet Ghorusda. 47 people, including Captain Darson, were killed in the incident, which later became known as the Ghorusda disaster. The Betazoid first contact specialist Tam Elbrun participated in the Ghorusda disaster. TNG Tin Man.

Named after the Greek word for "brothers". Name from dialogue. The ST Encyclopedia speculates that the Adelphi is an Ambassador-class vessel with the registry number NCC-26849.

 

 

  U.S.S. Aeon  
 

The Aeon is a Federation timeship from the 29th century under the command of Captain Braxton. The Aeon made a forced landing on Earth in the year 1967, where it was captured by Earth native Henry Starling, and became a source of significant timeline contamination. The U.S.S. Voyager helped to restore the original timeline. The Aeon was equipped with subatomic disruptor weapons. VOY Future's End, Part 1 & 2.

Named after the Greek word for "age" or "lifetime". Name from dialogue.

 

 

  U.S.S. Agamemnon  
 

In 2369, the Agamemnon was part of task force 3, under Captain Picard's command during an expected Borg invasion TNG Descent, Part 1.

Named after the Greek mythological figure who was commander of the Greek forces during the Trojan War. Name from dialogue. The ST Encyclopedia speculates that the Agamemnon is an Apollo-class vessel with the registry number NCC-11638.

 

 

  U.S.S. Ahwahnee NCC-2048  
 

In 2293, the Ahwahnee was on a deep space exploration mission. Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country.

Named after a Native American nation. According to Bjo Trimble's Concordance, the Ahwahnee appeared on a computer display. Judging by the registry number, the ship could be an Excelsior-class vessel.

 

 

  U.S.S. Ahwahnee NCC-73620  
 

The Ahwahnee was one of the 40 Federation ships that fought against the Borg in the Battle of Wolf 359. It was the only ship that survived the battle. TNG The Best of Both Worlds, Part 2. In 2368, the Ahwahnee served as part of the tachyon detection grid to blockade Romulan ships supplying the Duras family forces in the Klingon civil war. TNG Redemption, Part 2.

According to Mike Okuda, the change in the Ahwahnee's registry number from 73620 to 71620 on a computer display was a mistake. Name and NCC from studio model (EAS). The ST Encyclopedia speculates that the Ahwahnee is a Cheyenne-class vessel.

 

 

  U.S.S. Ajax NCC-11574

Apollo-class

 
 

In 2327, the Ajax, under the command of Captain Narth, was Ensign Cortin Zweller's first assignment after his graduation from Starfleet Academy. TNG Tapestry. In 2364, Starfleet propulsion specialist Kosinski tested an experimental warp drive upgrade on the Ajax, although it was later discovered that Kosinski's theories were baseless. TNG Where No Man Has Gone Before. In 2368, the Ajax served as part of the tachyon detection grid to blockade Romulan ships supplying the Duras family forces in the Klingon civil war. TNG Redemption, Part 2.

Named after two heroes from Greek mythology who fought in the Trojan War, Ajax of Salamis and Ajax of Locris. Name from dialogue. NCC and class from a computer display (Captain's Chair).

 

 

  U.S.S. Akagi NCC-62158  
 

In 2368, the Akagi served as part of the tachyon detection grid to blockade Romulan ships supplying the Duras family forces in the Klingon civil war. TNG Redemption, Part 2. In 2374, the ship was part of the 9th Fleet headquartered at starbase Deep Space 9. Around stardate 51247.5, the Akagi submitted a resupply request to DS9. DS9 You Are Cordially Invited. After a battle against the Dominion in 2374, the Akagi reported 20 crewmembers MIA and 1 crewmember KIA. DS9 In the Pale Moonlight.

Named after the Japanese carrier that fought against the American warship U.S.S. Hornet in the Battle of Midway in World War II. Ron Moore thought it fitting that in Star Trek's future, the Akagi would be serving alongside the Hornet. Name from dialogue. NCC from a computer display (DS9 Companion, Nemesis). The ST Encyclopedia speculates that the Akagi is a Rigel-class vessel.

 

 

  U.S.S. Al-Batani  
 

When Kathryn Janeway met Tom Paris for the first time, she told him that she had served with his father, Owen Paris, aboard the Al-Batani as Science Officer during the Arias expedition. VOY Caretaker. VOY Bride of Chaotica. VOY Live Fast and Prosper. VOY Shattered.

Named after Abu Abdallah Muhammad Ibn Jabir Ibn Sinan al-Batani al-Harrani (858-929), who was one of the greatest astronomists of Islam. Name from dialogue. The ST Encyclopedia speculates that the Al-Batani is an Excelsior-class vessel with the registry number NCC-42995.

 

 

  U.S.S. Alka-Selsior NCC-1404  
 

In 2368, the wreckage of the Alka-Selsior was stored at the Starfleet surplus depot in orbit around planet Qualor II. TNG Unification, Part 2.

The ship's name is obiously an in-joke which refers to the drug Alka-Seltzer. The Alka-Selsior was one of five Excelsior study models designed by Bill George for Star Trek III: The Search for Spock. Name and NCC from studio model (Mighty Monkey of Mim).

 

 

  U.S.S. Ambassador

Ambassador-class

 
 

Prototype of the Ambassador-class. TNG.

The Ambassador-class ship was designed by Andrew Probert and Rick Sternbach. The model, built by Greg Jein, was intended to suggest an intermediate step between the Excelsior-class and the Galaxy-class starships. The first mention of the Ambassador-class was in the TNG episode "Conspiracy". The ST Encyclopedia speculates that the Ambassador's registry number is NCC-10521.

 

 

  U.S.S. Antares  
 

This Federation science vessel, under the command of Captain Thomas Ramart, rescued Charles Evans from planet Tharsus in 2266. The ship was destroyed when Evans caused a baffle plate on their energy pile to vanish. TOS Charlie X.

Named after the brightest star (as seen from Earth) in the constellation Scorpius. TNG writer/consultant Naren Shankar suggested that the Bajoran cargo vessel in the TNG episode "Ensign Ro" be designated as Antares-class ship, a tip of the hat to the TOS episode "Charlie X". Name from dialogue. The ST Encyclopedia speculates that the Antares's registry number is NCC-501.

 

 

  U.S.S. Apollo

Apollo-class

 
 

Prototype of the Apollo-class. TNG.

Named after the Greek good of light, Apollo, as well as for the spacecraft that first carried humans to the moon. The first mention of the Apollo-class was on a computer display in the Enterprise-D's observation lounge.

 

 

  U.S.S. Appalachia NCC-52136  
 

The Appalachia was among the ships defending Sector 001 against the Borg incursion of 2373. Star Trek: First Contact.

Named after a great highland system of eastern North America. The ship's designer, Alex Jaeger, named the class after the song "Streamrunner" of his favourite band Fold Zandura. The "r" was somehow dropped in a spelling error and the ship's class was approved as Steamrunner. Name and NCC from CGI model (EAS).

 

 

  U.S.S. Archer NCC-44278  
 

In 2379, the Archer was part of battle group Omega. The battle group was ordered to convene in Sector 1045 to stop the Reman warbird Scimitar. Star Trek: Nemesis.

Named after Captain Jonathan Archer, first commanding officer of the Earth starship Enterprise NX-01. Name and NCC from a computer display. Judging by the registry number, the ship could be an Excelsior-class vessel.

 

 

  U.S.S. Archon  
 

The Archon was an early Federation starship that disappeared at planet Beta III in the year 2167. The ship was pulled from orbit by a planetary computer system called Landru. The surviving crew members were absorbed into Beta III society, becoming known as the Archons. TOS Return of the Archons.

Name from dialogue. The ST Encyclopedia speculates that the Archon was a Daedalus-class vessel with the registry number NCC-189.

 

 

  U.S.S. Ariel  
 

TAS The Eye of the Beholder.

Named after one of Uranus's moons, as well as for the mischievous airy spirit in Shakespeare's play "The Tempest". Name from dialogue.

 

 

  U.S.S. Aries NCC-45167

Renaissance-class

 
 

William Riker turned down a chance to command this ship in 2365. The ship's first officer in 2365 was Commander Flaherty. TNG The Icarus Factor. The Aries was the last assignment of former Victory crew member Mendez before her disappearance in 2367. TNG Identity Crisis. In 2368, the Aries served as part of the tachyon detection grid to blockade Romulan ships supplying the Duras family forces in the Klingon civil war. TNG Redemption, Part 2. In 2369, Will Riker told his duplicate, Thomas Riker, that he turned down the chance to command the Aries. TNG Second Chances. The Aries, under the command of Capt. M. George, visited planet Lilliput IX in 2370. Her next stay was at station Deep Space 9 on stardate 47568.2. DS9 Whispers. In 2379, the Aries was part of battle group Omega. The battle group was ordered to convene in Sector 1045 to stop the Reman warbird Scimitar. Star Trek: Nemesis.

Named after the constellation (the Ram) of the same name, as well as for the moon landing shuttle from the motion picture "2001: A Space Odyssey". The name was misspelled "AIRES" on the computer display in Star Trek: Nemesis. Name from dialogue. NCC and class from a computer display (Captain's Chair).

 

 

  U.S.S. Armstrong  
 

The Armstrong was ambushed by a Klingon battle group in 2373 and took heavy casualties. After the battle, the Armstrong docked at Deep Space 9 to receive medical aid. DS9 Apocalypse Rising.

Named after Apollo 11 astronaut Neil Armstrong, the first human to set foot on Earth's moon. Name from dialogue. The ST Encyclopedia speculates that the Armstrong is a Challenger-class vessel with the registry number NCC-57537.
