  The Madison was among the ships defending Sector 001 against the Borg incursion of 2373. Star Trek: First Contact.

  U.S.S. Magellan    
  This Federation starship was commanded by Captain Conklin. During the Magellan's stay at the Arkaria Base, the ship's crew put on a talent show there. Captain Conklin did a poetry reading. TNG Starship Mine. In 2374, the Magellan participated in the daring and costly mission to retake station DS9 from Dominion control, preventing a massive incursion of Dominion ships into the Alpha Quadrant. The Magellan was supposed to protect the Defiant's starboard flank. DS9 Sacrifice of Angels.

Named after Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan (1480-1521), who led the first circumnavigation of planet Earth. Name from dialogue. The ST Encyclopedia speculates that the Magellan is a Constellation-class vessel with the registry number NCC-3069.

 

 

  U.S.S. Majestic NCC-31060

Miranda-class

 
  In 2374, the Majestic was destroyed in the daring and costly mission to retake station DS9 from Dominion control, preventing a massive incursion of Dominion ships into the Alpha Quadrant. DS9 Sacrifice of Angels.

  U.S.S. Malinche

Excelsior-class

 
  On stardate 50485.2, the Malinche, under the command of Captain Sanders, patrolled the Demilitarized Zone near the Gamma 7 outpost. It towed the Defiant to DS9 after the ship had been disabled by a Maquis cascade virus. The Malinche was later assigned to apprehend Maquis leader and former Starfleet officer Michael Eddington. When the Malinche caught up with Eddington, Sander's ship was disabled by a focused particle beam rigged onto a Cardassian freighter decoy. DS9 For the Uniform.

Named after 16th-century Mexican princess Malinche, who was originally a slave given as a peace offering to the Spanish conquistadors by the Tabascan Indians. Name from dialogue. Class visually identified. The ST Encyclopedia speculates that the Malinche's registry number is NCC-38997.

 

 

  U.S.S. Malone    
  Lt. Anaanda Ziff served aboard this ship prior to her assignment to the Enterprise-D. TNG Eye of the Beholder.

Mamed after Sam Malone, a character from the TV show "Cheers". Name from a computer display.

 

 

  U.S.S. Maryland    
  The Maryland became lost in the Gamma Quadrant sometime prior 2373. It was believed that the ship and crew fell victim to the Dominion. DS9 In Purgatory's Shadow.

Name from dialogue. The ST Encyclopedia speculates that the Maryland is a Renaissance-class vessel with the registry number NCC-45109.

 

 

  U.S.S. Mayflower    
  The Mayflower often transported cargo to DS9 in 2371, 2372, and 2374. DS9 Family Business. DS9 Indiscretion. DS9 Sons of Mogh. DS9 Who Mourns For Morn?. The Mayflower also delivered goods to the Federation colony on Ajilon Prime. DS9 For the Battle to the Strong.

Named after the ship that carried the first colonists to North America. Name from a shipping label.

 

 

  U.S.S. Mekong

Danube-class

 
 

The Mekong was destroyed in the aftermath of the disastrous Cardassian-Romulan attack on the Founders' homeworld in 2371. DS9 The Maquis. DS9 Whispers.

Named after the river in southeast Asia that flows south to the China Sea. Name from dialogue. Class visually identified. The ST Encyclopedia speculates that the Mekong's registry number is NCC-72617.

 

 

 

  U.S.S. Melbourne NCC-62043

Nebula-class

 
  The Melbourne was stationed at Starbase 47 in 2364 when the Bynars hijacked the Enterprise-D, but was unable to give chase because of maintenance in progress. TNG 11001001. Cmdr. William Riker was offered command of the Melbourne in late 2366, but he declined the promotion, preferring to remain executive officer on the Enterprise-D. TNG The Best of Both Worlds, Part 1. Shortly thereafter, the Melbourne was one of the 39 Federation starships destroyed by the Borg during the Battle of Wolf 359. TNG The Best of Both Worlds, Part 2. DS9 Emissary.   U.S.S. Merrimac NCC-1715    
  Star Trek: The Motion Picture.

Named in honour of the vessel that became the noted iron-clad warship C.S.S. Virginia, that fought for the Confederacy in the American Civil War. Name and NCC from dialogue. According to the Starfleet Technical Manual, the Merrimac is a Bonhomme Richard-class vessel.

 

 

  U.S.S. Merrimac NCC-61827

Nebula-class

 
 

The Merrimac transported Ambassador Sarek and his party from Legara IV back to Vulcan, following the Legaran conference of 2366. TNG Sarek. In 2368, the Merrimac served as part of the tachyon detection grid to blockade Romulan ships supplying the Duras family forces in the Klingon civil war. TNG Redemption, Part 2. The Merrimac transported Cadet Wesley Crusher back to Starfleet Academy following his vacation aboard the Enterprise-D in 2368. TNG The Game. Commander Rudman served aboard the Merrimac in 2369.   Prototype of the Miranda-class.

Named after Prospero's daughter, a character in William Shakespeare's last play "The Tempest". The Miranda-class was designed by Mike Minor. The first mention of the Miranda-class was on the Brattain's dedication plaque in the TNG episode "Night Terrors".

 

 

  U.S.S. Monitor NCC-61826

Nebula-class

 
  The Monitor was sent to the Romulan Neutral Zone border in preparation for a possible battle, after Starfleet received warnings of a Romulan build-up at planet Nelvana III in 2366. The warnings, from Romulan defector Alidar Jarok, were later found to be baseless. TNG The Defector.

  U.S.S. Musashi    
  In 2375, Ensign Nog gave the Musashi's crew an induction modulator in exchange for a phaser emitter. DS9 Treachery, Faith and the Great River.

Named after the Japanese dreadnought that sunk in the Sibuyan Sea on October 25, 1944, during the Battle of Leyte Gulf. Name from dialogue.
