In 2374, the Cairo, under the command of Captain Leslie Wong, was lost and
presumed destroyed by Dominion forces while on a patrol near the Romulan

|
The Carolina apparently sent an emergency
signal to the Enterprise on stardate 3497. The transmission turned out to
be a hoax, a Klingon attempt to prevent the Enterprise from returning to
planet Capella IV. TOS Friday's Child.
Named after
the US states North and South Carolina. According to the ST Encyclopedia, the
Carolina is a Daedalus-class vessel but that's impossible since the Daedalus-class was retired around 2190.

Carolina, under the command of Captain Peterson, was sent to intercept a
Ferengi Marauder suspected of intercepting Starfleet's Voyager transmissions
in early 2377.

|
|
In 2374, the Centaur,
under the command of Captain Charles Reynolds, encountered a Jem'Hadar
attack ship commanded by Captain Benjamin Sisko and his crew on a secret
mission deep inside Cardassian space. Not knowing that the ship was
piloted by Starfleet crew, Reynolds engaged the ship, causing it some
damage. DS9 A Time to Stand. DS9 Rocks and Shoals. Later
that year, the Centaur was stationed at Starbase 375. DS9
Behind the Lines. The Centaur was part of the task force commanded
by Captain Sisko to retake station DS9 from Dominion control during the
Dominion war. DS9 Sacrifice of Angels.
Named after a creature from
Greek mythology that had the head and torso of a man joined to the body of a
horse.

Challenger was on a deep space exploration mission. Star Trek VI: The
Undiscovered Country. Named after the space
shuttle that was
destroyed in 1986 in a tragic explosion that claimed the lives of seven
astronauts shortly after launch from planet Earth. According to Bjo
Trimble's Concordance, the Challenger appeared on a computer display.

After a battle against the Dominion in 2374, the Cochrane reported 9
crewmembers KIA, 5 crewmembers MIA, and 2 crewmembers WIA. DS9 In the Pale Moonlight. Named after the inventor of

Named after
the NASA space shuttle, as well as for the command module of Apollo 11. Name
and NCC from dialogue. According to the Starfleet Technical Manual, the
Columbia is a Cygnus-class vessel. |

In 2370, during the anti-time occurrence created by Q,
Admiral Nakamura deployed the Concord, along with 15 other starships, to
the Romulan Neutral Zone to investigate a Romulan military build-up on
their side of the zone. TNG All Good Things.... Named after the Battle of
Concord, a skirmish between British regulars and American provincials,
marking the beginning of the U.S. War of Independence.

The Constantinople suffered a hull breach near Gravesworld while carrying some 2012 colonists in 2365. Enterprise-D

|
The Constellation,
under the command of Commodore Matt Decker, was heavily damaged in 2267
near system L-374 by an extragalactic planet killer weapon. The planet
killer destroyed the planets in system L-374, including a planet where the
crew of the Constellation had taken refuge. Enterprise personnel
programmed the hulk of the Constellation to self-destruct its impulse
drive inside the planet killer, destroying the robotic weapon. TOS The Doomsday Machine. Named in
honour of the U.S.S. Constellation, a sloop-of-war that fought for the
Union in the American Civil War, as well as for the aircraft carrier U.S.S.
Constellation CV-64.
I consider the Constellation's registry
NCC-1017 an error, as
it was a
simple rearrangement of the decal sheet from the AMT Enterprise model kit,
done by people who had obviously no clue about Matt Jefferies's registry
scheme.

Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country.
In 2371, the Constellation was sent to transport the Jem'Hadar abandoned on
DS9 to Starbase 201. DS9 The Abandoned. After the Starship Honshu was
destroyed on stardate 51408.6, Starfleet assigned the Constellation and the
Defiant to search for survivors in adjacent star systems. DS9 Waltz. The first Constellation-class ship seen,
the Stargazer, was originally planned to be a Constitution-class ship,
allowing the visual effects staff to make use of the existing movie
Enterprise model. The producers did not make the decision to build a new
model for the Stargazer until after the episode was filmed with LeVar Burton
calling it a Constitution-class ship. The choice of the name Constellation
was based largely on the fact that it could be dubbed over Geordi's line
since the two words are so similar. The
Constellation-class was designed by Andrew Probert.

Lore studied schematics of the U.S.S. Constitution.
TNG Datalore. Named after the US Navy sailing ship U.S.S. Constitution,
popularly known as "Old
Ironsides". The Constitution-class was designed by Matt Jefferies.

The Copernicus was in Spacedock when Kirk and his crew were transferred to their new ship, the
Enterprise NCC-1701-A. Star Trek IV: The Voyager Home. Named after the Polish
astronomer Nicolaus Copernicus (1473-1543), who
proposed that the planets have the sun as the fixed point to which their
motions are to be referred.

U.S.S. Cortéz |

The Cortéz was part of the task force
commanded by Captain Sisko to retake station DS9 during the Dominion war
in 2374. It dropped out of formation for repairs to the port nacelle and
was replaced by the U.S.S. Sarek. DS9 Favor the Bold. During the
retake of DS9, the Cortez informed the Defiant that the Dominion fleet had
broken off the fight and was in retreat. DS9 Sacrifice of Angels. The Cortéz, under the command of Captain
Quentin Swofford, was destroyed while patrolling the Cardassian borders. The
U.S.S. Defiant searched the area for almost six hours, but couldn't find any
sign of survivors. The Cortez had a crew of 400. DS9 Far Beyond the Stars. Nmed after the
Spanish conquistador Hernán Cortéz (1485-1547), who overthrew the Aztec empire and won Mexico for
Spain. I have no clue why Starfleet named a ship after such a man. Name from

In 2369, the Crazy Horse was part of task force 3, under
Captain Picard's command during an expected Borg invasion. TNG Descent,
Part 1. The Enterprise-D was ordered to rendezvous with the Crazy Horse in
2370 in order to pick up Rear Admiral Erik Pressman. TNG The Pegasus. Named after the Oglala Sioux
chief Crazy Horse (1849-1877), who was one of the most important Native American leaders at the
Battle of Little Bighorn in 1876.
