Prototype of the
Galaxy-class.
The Galaxy, and
four other ships of its class, fought in the combined fleet of allied
Alpha Quadrant forces that invaded Cardassian space at the
Chin'toka-System in late 2374. The Galaxy was seriously damaged by orbital
weapon platforms employed by the Dominion. DS9 Tears
of the Prophets. In 2379, the Galaxy was part of battle group
Omega. The battle group was ordered to convene in Sector 1045 to stop the
Reman warbird Scimitar. Star Trek: Nemesis. The Galaxy-class was designed by Andrew Probert. The Galaxy-class was first mentioned and seen in the TNG episode "Encounter at Farpoint". Name and NCC from a computer display. Class visually identified. |

Lt. Thomas Riker with some assistance of
Captain Picard, was assigned to the Gandhi in 2369 after his rescue from
planet Nervala IV. He transferred to the ship just prior to its departure
for a terraforming mission in the Lagana sector. TNG Second Chances. Riker was serving aboard
the Gandhi when he began to express pro-Maquis sentiments. By 2371 Thomas
Riker deserted his post aboard the Gandhi to become a member of the Maquis. DS9 Defiant. Named after Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi (1869-1948), leader of the Indian nationalist movement, an influential philosopher who advocated non-violent confrontation and civil disobedience as a means of fostering political change on Earth. newly formed Genesis Planet in 2285, but was destroyed by a Klingon vessel
attempting to claim the planet for the Klingon Empire. The investigation
team included Lt. JG Saavik and Dr. David Marcus. Star Trek III: The Search for
Spock. Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home. Named after Mercury astronaut Virgil I. Grissom (1926-1967), who was killed in the tragic Apollo 1 fire in 1967.
