Named after the prefectural capital Yamaguchi, western Honshu, Japan. Name and NCC from studio model (IDIC Page). Class visually identified.

  U.S.S. Yamato NCC-71807

Galaxy-class

The Yamato was sister ship of the Enterprise-D. TNG Where Silence Has Lease. The Yamato, under the command of Captain Donald Varley, was destroyed in 2365 by an ancient Iconian computer software weapon that caused the failure of the ship's antimatter containment system, resulting in the ship's explosion and the loss of all hands. The software weapon had also been responsible for a series of other malfunctions aboard the Yamato, including the failure of a shuttlebay force field. TNG Contagion.

Named after the Japanese World War II battleship. An earlier, incorrect number was given in TNG Where Silence Has Lease, when an illusory version of that ship was seen. An early draft for that episode gave the number NCC-1305-E, which didn't fit into the numbering scheme developed for starships in TNG. Mike Okuda wrote a note to the producers, requesting the number be changed, but didn't send the memo because a later draft of that script dropped the reference to the Yamato's registry number. Okuda wasn't aware that an even-later draft of the script restored the scene and the incorrect number. The dedication plaque bore a quote of Thomas Jefferson: "I have sworn eternal hostility against every form of tyranny over the mind of man". Name from dialogue. NCC from a screenshot. Class visually identified.

  U.S.S. Yangtzee Kiang

Danube-class

  U.S.S. Yeager NCC-65674

The Yeager was stationed at Deep Space 9 from 2373 to 2375. DS9 Doctor Bashir, I Presume?. DS9 A Simple Investigation. DS9 Blaze of Glory. DS9 In the Cards. DS9 Sacrifice of Angels. DS9 Resurrection. The craft lost antimatter containment and was destroyed when Kim was returning to his original reality. VOY Non Sequitur.

  U.S.S. Yorktown
The Yorktown was scheduled to rendezvous with the Enterprise in 2268 to transfer critically needed vaccines for planet Theta VII. The Enterprise was unable to make the rendezvous with the Yorkown until the investigation and destruction of the dikironium cloud creature was complete. TOS Obsession. The Yorktown, under the command of Captain Joel Randolph, was disabled by an alien space probe approaching Earth in 2286. The ship's chief engineer rigged a makeshift solar sail to provide emergency power. Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home. Tuvok's father served aboard the Yorktown in 2293. VOY Flashback.

Named after the American aircraft carrier that fought in the Pacific theatre during World War II. Yorktown was the original name of Star Trek's spaceship, before the ship was called Enterprise, from Gene Roddenberry's first draft of the series outline written in 1964. Roddenberry reportedly suggested that the Enterprise-A, launched at the end of Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home, had previously been named the Yorktown, since it seems unlikely that Starfleet could have built an all-new ship so quickly. The name of the captain is from the Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home script. Name from dialogueAccording to the Starfleet Technical Manual, the Yorktown is a Constitution-class vessel with the registry number NCC-1704.

  U.S.S. Yosemite

Oberth-class

The Yosemite was severely damaged while conducting a study of the plasma streamer between a binary star pair in the Igo sector in 2369. During transport of plasma samples to the ship, quasi-energy microbes caused an explosion of a sample container, resulting in severe damage to the ship and the death of at least one crew member. TNG Realm of Fear. Later that year, the Yosemite was mentioned by a woman in the Tilonius Institute for Mental Disorders. TNG Frame of Mind. The Yosemite, under the command of Capt. J. Swift, visited planet New Brooklyn IX in 2370. Her next stay was at station Deep Space 9 on stardate 47552.9. DS9 Whispers.

Named after the Yosemite National Park. Name from dialogue. Class visually identified. The ST Encyclopedia speculates that the Yosemite's registry number is NCC-19002.

  U.S.S. Yukon

Danube-class

In 2372, Major Kira and Chief O'Brien used the Yukon to make an inspection tour of the Bajoran colonies along the Cardassian border. On their way home, they detected the first sign of a cloaked Klingon minefield around the Bajoran system. DS9 Sons of Mogh. The Yukon was destroyed by the starship Defiant in 2373 when a changeling infiltrator hijacked it in an effort to destroy the Bajoran sun with a trilithium explosive. DS9 By Inferno's Light.
